Workers observe Black Day

KOCHI: The Thiruvananthapuram mechanical division of the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union had observed Black Day on July 12 to bring to notice the need to reinstate jobs at the mechanical depots in Irumbanam and the Marshalling Yard Coaching here. Other demands of the march included the need to hire more workers at the depots, avail free spareparts for maintanence works, prevent the delay in promotion and ensure health safety of workers especially due to the water logging problems at the Ernakulam Coaching Depot. The workers, who approached the manager of the Ernakulam South Railway Station, also demanded the need to stop the distribution of public works to the workers. Council chairman M Prakash delivered the welcome address S Balakrishnan delivered a vote of thanks.
