BANGALORE: A woman and her two children drowned in the Doddamaraiahanahalli lake near Kalaiahna Palya under the Tavarekere police station limits of Ramanagaram district on Sunday.The deceased have been identified as Lakshmamma (28), and her daughters Kavya (10) and Bhavana (8). Lakshmamma was married to Shivakumar, who worked in a hardware shop, and the family was living at Kalaiahna Palya. Kavya was in class six while Bhavana was studying in class three in a government schoolAccording to the police, Lakshmamma had gone to the lake to wash clothes with her daughters on Sunday at 7.30 am. She did not return home and a relative, who went near the lake, noticed the bucket Lakshmama had taken with her and their slippers on the banks of the river. But, as he did not find any of them, he informed the police.The police arrived at the spot and a rescue team of the fire department was pressed into service. After an operation of three hours, all the three bodies were fished out from the lake. “There was no one present on the spot when the incident occurred. We suspect that Kavya tried to pull a bucket that had floated towards the middle of the lake and lost her balance. Lakshmamma and Bhavana probably tried to save her and waded into the lake but all of them drowned,” the police added.The bodies were shifted to Raja Rajeshwari Hospital mortuary for post mortem. Tavarekere police have registered a case.
