The temple is located around 16 km from the city of Srikakulam. According to reports, this temple was built in 1919, by a man named Duvvakula Kannappadu. He constructed the temple with his wealth. The main deities of the temple include Lord Rama, accompanied by Lakshmana and Sita Devi, along with Jagannath, Subhadra, and Balarama. There is a deity of Lord Hanuman at the entrance of the temple which serves as the guard of the main deities.
This temple also has a sub-temple that is dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi, where the auspicious festival of Varalakshmi Vratam is observed with great devotion during the month of Shravan. Since the establishment of the Sri Kodanda Rama Swamy Temple, this place has been a popular wedding venue, especially for couples from the surrounding villages.
Every year, special festivals are organised during Sri Rama Navami. Adding to it, a special nine-day festival is observed to worship Lord Jagannath, Subhadra, and Balarama during the month of Ashada. A massive chariot procession is also held on the first and ninth days. The festival is celebrated with great pomp and joy for nine days. People from various parts of the state visit this temple during this festival.
Despite the temple’s rich history, the government have not provided any assistance for its development till date, a priest of the temple stated. The temple authority owns around 16 acres of agricultural land, but the tenants have not been paying rent, leading to difficulties in conducting the daily rituals. The youths of the surrounding villages usually take the initiative to conduct the Rama Navami and the Jagannath Swamy chariot festival. Thousand of tourists visit this temple every year.
