Kakatiya Zoological Park in the Hanamkonda district is a must-visit picnic spot for wildlife lovers. It is also known as Warangal Zoo. The zoo was constructed by the Warangal District Administration to protect the sanctity of nature. It was opened to the public in 1985. In 2010, the Central Zoo Authority of India ordered the zoo to be converted into a zoological park. The zoo serves as both an educational and entertainment centre. It became the Zoological Park in 2013. The Kakatiya Zoological Park is spread over an area of 50 acres. It was established to educate the general public about wildlife conservation. Set up under the Telangana Wildlife Department, this zoo is home to various types of animals as well as plants.
In this park, there are animals like leopards, tigers, bears, deer, monkeys and musk deer. Reptiles like turtles and crocodiles are protected and conserved here. There are a total of 41 species of animals and plants. More than 500 people visit this park daily, as per media reports.
Apart from the joint Warangal district, many people come here regularly from Khammam, Karimnagar and Adilabad districts. Many educational institutions also bring their students to this zoo park for a picnic and educational tour. It also serves as the entertainment centre for families as they visit this zoological park for fun and quality time with loved ones. The locals believe that the Kakatiya Zoological Park has developed in recent years. The facilities are also good. It is a great place to have fun with kids in summer. Transport facilities are also available to the zoo including TSRTC, many private services provide the means of transport. The nearest railway station is Kazipet Junction. It is approximately 7 km away from the zoo.
