New Delhi: After a brief lull, it is once again Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Dr. Najeeb Jung versus the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi. The AAP has launched an open attack on Dr. Jung alleging that he is trying to help former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who is undergoing 10 years imprisonment in Tihar Jail, following conviction in a serious case of corruption. A statement from the AAP says that the facts on record show that Dr. Jung pressurized the elected Delhi government to grant parole to Chautala for the second time in less than five months and he also wanted Chautala to be shifted from Tihar to a jail in Bhatinda (Punjab).
The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded a probe into the alleged role of Dr. Najeeb Jung in helping a convicted politician, who is perhaps the only chief minister in the country to have been sentenced to a 10-year jail term in a serious case of corruption. It has also attacked the Modi government at the Centre for defending Dr. Jung. The statement said “the party demands that the BJP’s central government, which has been so far defending all wrong and illegal actions of Jung should seek all the facts about the undue interest shown by the Delhi LG in the case of a convicted politician”.
The AAP is asking the following four questions to the LG of Delhi :
1) When OP Chautala moved an extension of Parole Request on 30.4.15, the Home Minister of Govt of NCT of Delhi rejected the extension terming it as unwarranted. LG overruled the opinion of the democratically elected Govt. and granted the extension in Parole. Why did the LG disregard the opinion of the Delhi Govt, to benefit a corrupt politician?
2) On 28th Oct 2015, LG’s office issued a press release stating “The Hon’ble Lt. Governor rejected parole prayer of Sh. Om Prakash Chautala on 05/10/2015….No further application of Sh. Om Prakash Chautala for parole has been received in the Lt. Governor’s Secretariat thus far.”
LG’s office misled the media by stating that there was only one Parole plea, which was rejected on 5th Oct 2015, and that no further application has been received. Why did LG not disclose that there was another Parole Request of OP Chautala on 16th October? Why did LG make a U-turn within 24 hours? Why did LG pressurise the Home Minister of Delhi Government to recommend Parole on second request moved by Convict on 16th October?
3) Is it not true that the LG bypassed the democratically elected Delhi Government, and directly solicited the file from a Home Department Official for transfer of Om Prakash Chautala to Bhatinda Jail- a request moved by the Convict?
4) Why is LG shielding the corrupt? Why is the LG batting for a person who has been awarded exemplary punishment by the judiciary on grounds of corruption?
