New Delhi: It was a moment of truth in the Delhi High Court for socialite Bina Ramani.
Ramani - a key witness in the case - had come under sharp public scrutiny for having gone back on her statement in the court on the previous ocassions.
But this time on, she remained steadfast on her stand and told the court that she was not only present at the scene of crime, but also saw Manu shoot Jessica.
“The truth has finally come and we finally feel free. There has been a terrible shadow over us, which tried to prove that we were the accused so that they could get away smoothly. I am very proud ” an emotional Bina Ramani said.
Recalling the last minutes Bina spent while taking Jessica to hospital on that fateful night she said, “Jessica was breathing heavily in the backseat of the car and I kept telling her ‘You can fight it Jessica. You are a fighter’. But I saw her slipping away.”
"A whole new life is going to begin. I am going to go to the temple and thank God. I want to start working with children, on AIDS and destitute women," she said.
Ramani also called for the strengthening the protection for witnesses. "Had the witness been protected strongly, there wouldn’t have been a Shayan Munshi or a Zahira Sheikh," she said.
She added, "I wish the judiciary allows them a second chance so that they realise that they should have stuck to the truth and not succumb to power pressure. We as children were taught never to lie. My father told us – ‘Kill a person but always stand for the truth.' And I have taught my children the same values."
