West Bengal: Bar Association not to defend nun rape case accused

Krishnanagar (WB): The local bar association in Ranaghat on Thursday decided against defending the accused in the alleged robbery and rape of nun at Ranaghat in Nadia district.

"We have decided not to plead for the accused of convent robbery and rape case as it is a heinous crime," Secretary of Ranaghat Bar Association Milan Sarkar said. Salim Seikh whom CID had arrested in Mumbai on Thursday was produced before the local court.

It was the first arrest in the case that took place on the eleventh day after the incident. However, Salim will get the legal assistance from the Sub-Divisional Legal Aid Committee.

Basudeb Mukhopadhyay, advocate and representative of Sub-Divisional Legal Aid Committee said, "I have been appointed by the Committee to move for the undefended cases in the month of March and April and I will stand for Salim Seikh."

Rupanjana Chakraborty, Additional Session and District Judge cum Chairman of the said committee recruited him for the job, he said.
