WB: Maoist leader Suchitra Mahato surrenders
Suchitra had reportedly sent several feelers to the WB govt in November 2011 that she wanted to surrender.

New Delhi: Maoist leader Suchitra Mahato, wife of slain leader Sasadhar Mahato, on Friday surrendered before the West Bengal government. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee welcomed the surrender.

Suchitra was an aide of slain Maoist topgun Kishenji, who was gunned down in an encounter in November 2011. Suchitra was reportedly injured in the incident.

In its aftermath, Suchitra reportedly sent several feelers to the government indicating that she wanted to surrender.

There were reports that the wife of the leader of a Maoist-led organisation played mediator to get her to surrender on assurance of rehabilitation.

Suchitra reportedly led the Silda massacre.
