Bhopal: Under mysterious circumstances, yet another accused Vijay Singh in the Vyapam scam has been found dead in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh. He is the eighth accused to have died in the scam.
Pharmacist Vijay Singh was a key accused linked to several high-profile suspects in the scam. He was found dead in a lodge in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh a week ago.
While police are waiting for the post mortem report, preliminary investigation suggests that he may have been killed. There were injury marks on his wrist and neck.
Recently, Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav's son, Shailesh, was also found dead under mysterious circumstances. Their mysterious deaths have further complicated the Vyapam case.
Alleged financial and administrative irregularities, including unauthorised disposal of application forms, worth crores of rupees by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) have been pointed out in an audit report.
The audit, which was conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Local Fund Audit office for 2007-08, found a difference of about Rs 4 crore in revenue earned from sales of application forms by the MPPEB or 'Vyapam'. The MPPEB conducts entrance and recruitment tests for admission in medical and engineering courses, and selection in certain government services, among others.
