Frankfurt: Former Scotland coach Berti Vogts will be Germany's 'spy' at this summer's World Cup making notes on opponents and relaying them to manager Jurgen Klinsmann.
The 59-year-old Vogts, Germany coach from August 1990 to September 1998, will call on his vast experience to help Klinsmann's bid to lift the World Cup.
"I am tied to the German Football Federation (DFB) for the World Cup and will help Jurgen. I can not disuss details," said Vogts.
But the DFB revealed on their homepage that Vogts would work alongside chief scout Urs Siegenthaler and Under-21 coach Dieter Eilts in passing on observations.
It is a role reversal for Vogts who had Klinsmann under his wing when Germany triumphed at Euro 96.
Just a few weeks ago Vogts looked to have severed ties with the DFB when he ridiculed Klinsmann's proposal to have hockey coach Bernhard Peters as the new sporting director but has since apologised for his comments.
Hosts Germany face Costa Rica in Munich for the World Cup opener on June 9 with further group matches against Poland and Ecuador.
The last time Germany hosted the World Cup was back in 1974 when they won with Vogts part of the victorious West German side.
