Vijayakanths election challenged

CHENNAI: DMDK president Vijaykanth’s election from Rishivandiyam constituency in the May 13 elections has been challenged in the Madras High Court. M Jayanthi of Virugambakkam, who had filed her nomination papers as an independent candidate, filed a petition stating that as the Returning Officer (RO) had rejected her nomination papers on flimsy grounds, she was unable to contest in the elections, resulting in Vijaykanth’s election.The petitioner said her nomination papers were rejected on the grounds that the proposers had not affixed their signatures or thumb impressions on the papers.
