Mathura is gearing up to celebrate Holi from the day of Vasant Panchami which marks the beginning of celebrations of festival of colours in the city.
Vasant Panchami, a festival that marks the commencement of spring season, will be celebrated on February 4 after which locals will kick-start their 51-day long Holi festivities.

“Holi would also start in the famous Bankey Behari temple where rose powder would be tossed on pilgrims during ‘aarti’ (prayers),” a priest of the temple said.

Special religious programs would be organised in other temples of Vrindavan.

Meanwhile, tight security arrangements have been put in place keeping in view the heavy footfall in Mathura every year during Vasant Panchami.

“The administration has not only beefed up security in the city but also ordered a one-way traffic system to ensure smooth traffic movement in Vrindaban and Goverdhan,” District Magistrate Vishal Chauhan said.
