HYDERABAD: The Tungabadhra Express speeding towards Secunderabad from Kurnool rammed into a DCM van at Thondupalli bridge near Shamshabad on Saturday, after the van veered off the bridge and fell on the railway track.According to Shamshabad police, the van driver escaped unhurt and there were no casualties as the train hit the van.The van had veered off the bridge around 6.30 p.m and fell on the railway tracks, police said. After the incident, the driver fled from there. Locals immediately alerted the police who realised that the train was coming on the same track.“We tried our best to stop the vehicle by showing red flags to alert the driver about it. But, the train still hit the van even after applying brakes,” Shamshabad inspector S Ravi Chandra said.With the help of locals, the van was moved off the tracks and train journey resumed, police said.Police suspect the van driver was drunk while driving the vehicle. Police registered a case.
