KOCHI: Globalisation has led to fewer good films, noted filmmaker Kumar Shahani said. He was speaking at an interaction session 'An evening with Kumar Shahani' organised by Cusat and the Film Club of Maharajas College in the city on Wednesday. Shahani asked the youngsters to overcome unfavourable situations that arose due to the present political, cultural and civil systems. “One can’t take lightly what is happening in the world nowadays.”“Social responsibility should be give more importance than political. Value of humanity should be kept above the value of money”, he told the students. He pointed out that the quality of nurturing is lacking in most people today. “People complain there are not many industries here. In my opinion, health and education based industries should be encouraged more,” he said.About the advertisement campaigns he said, “There is a continuous pressure to fool ourselves.” He also spoke about the significance of costumes, dance and sound in films. Costuming is a creative area where different cultures take part. The aspirants of costume designing should not be carried away by the new age fashion. “We cannot claim that we know the audience. One who claims that they know how the audience think, is of the Hitler-type,” he the veteran director said.
