PATHANAMTHITTA: Aranmula vallasadya offerings, the annual two-month ritual of offering vallasadya to palliyodams by devotees, began at Aranmula Sree Parthasarathi temple on Sunday.The valladya offering is an ongoing practice by devotees to Lord Parthasarathy in return for the blessings and favours bestowed on them.As part of the offering, the devotees invite the palliyoda kara/karas of their choice in advance and should accord a reception to the palliyodam on its/their arrival at the temple kadavu on the banks of Pampa river.After the reception, the devotees offer ‘para’ in front of the golden flag mast in front of the Sreekovil. After the ‘para’ offering, the members of the palliyodams will be offered vallasadya, which has 45 side-dishes, including six ‘payasams’. TDB president inaugurates vallasadya: Travancore Devaswom Board president M Rajagopalan Nair inaugurated the annual vallasadya offering by lighting the traditional lamp in front of the Sreekovil of the temple at 11.45 a.m after the Uchcha pooja of Lord Parthasarathi.MPs Anto Antony and P J Kurian, K Sivadasan Nair, MLA, Special Commissioner Panchapakesan, District Superintendent of Police K K Balachandran, Aranmula Palliyoda Seva Sangham president P V Sambadevan, secretary Mithun R Mohan and vice-president S Ramachandran Pillai were among those present at the ceremony.Members of 14 palliyodams, including Edayaranmula East, Laka-Edayaranmula, Thottappuzhassery, Punnamthottam, Maramon, Kozhenchery, Mallappuzhassery, Nedumprayar, Kottathur, Ayroor, Idappavoor, Cherukol, Kattoor and Melukara, participated in the vallasadya offering on the first day.
