Uttarakhand Nurse On Way To Home From Hospital Raped And Murdered, Accused Arrested

Amid the furore across the country over the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old woman PG trainee doctor in Kolkata, Uttarakhand police on Wednesday arrested a suspect in the alleged rape and murder of a 33-year-old nurse who went missing on July 30 in Rudrapur of Udham Singh Nagar district.

The deceased was a resident of Gadarpur’s Islamnagar and worked as a nurse at a private hospital in Nainital. She lived with her 11-year-old daughter in Bilaspur Colony.

The victim’s sister had filed a missing person’s report on July 31 at Rudrapur police station after which police began a probe into the case. Over a week later, her body was found in an empty plot in Uttar Pradesh’s Dibdiba area. The body was sent for post-mortem.

Accused Raped, Killed And Robbed The Nurse

The accused, who was arrested from Rajasthan’s Jodhpur, is a labourer from Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly.

According to reports, the accused Dharmendra took the nurse to the bushes where he first raped her, then strangled her to death and fled after robbing her jewellery.

How Did Police Catch The Accused?

Police scoured the CCTV camera footage which showed the last known whereabouts of the victim travelling in a tempo from Indra Chowk in Rudrapur. Police traced the location of the victim’s stolen mobile phone which led them to Dharmendra.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he attacked the nurse on the way inside the Basundhara Apartment at Kashipur Road with the intention of robbery. He then took her to a vacant plot, raped her and strangled her to death. After killing her, the accused fled with the money and jewellery kept in her purse.
