Jammu: Two Border Security Force (BSF) troopers were injured in firing from the Pakistan side on a border post on International Border (IB) in Pargwal sector near Jammu on Thursday evening, officials said.

A senior BSF official told IANS that there was firing from a light machinegun from the Pakistan side on Nikowal border post, about 30 km west of Jammu.

He said the BSF retaliated after the two troopers were injured. The firing stopped after 15 minutes, the official added.

He said the BSF was trying to ascertain the source of the firing. "It could be from infiltrating militants or Pakistan Rangers. In case of latter eventuality, it is yet another ceasefire violation."

Senior officials have rushed to the spot to assess the situation.

The BSF guards about 220 km of the international border with Pakistan in the plains of the Jammu region while army is deployed along 720 km of Line of Control (LoC) in the state.
