GULBARGA: The Gulbarga zilla panchayat, which made headlines last week over women members' demand to allow their husbands to participate in general body meetings, is in news again. This time, a senior class I officer took the centrestage.
After orders were issued swapping the zilla panchayat deputy secretaries of Gulbarga and Bijapur, the one working at Bijapur got 'relieving letter' without the knowledge of his superior and 'assumed' office here only to be told to go back.According to sources, some members of Gulbarga ZP had complained to Rural Development and panchayat raj Minister Jagadish Shettar against ZP deputy secretary Vasant Kulkarni and sought his transfer.

Shettar agreed and asked the ZP members to suggest an alternative to Kulkarni. They consulted another senior officer and suggested the name of Amaresh Naik who was working as deputy secretary of Bijapur ZP. Orders were issued last week transferring Kulkarni to Bijapur and Amaresh Naik to Gulbarga.

Meanwhile, Naik wanted to get relieved from Bijapur soon, but the ZP CEO declined saying that he could go after a general body meeting of Bijapur ZP to be held in a few days.

Using the opportunity, Naik got relieved from the post and came to Gulbarga without informing his superior in Bijapur. Naik who came to Gulbarga on Thursday asked Kulkarni to hand over the charge. But Kulkarni showed him the stay on his transfer.

Vijaykumar who assumed office as the CEO of Gulbarga ZP on Friday told Express that Naik violated KAT order by assuming charge and told him to go back to his earlier posting.

What's your reaction?
