Jamshedpur: Security was tightened at Telco township after the residence of the plant head of Tata Motors S B Borwankar was ransacked allegedly by activists of Bharatiya Bhojpuri Sangh (BBS).
One platoon of Rapid Action Police (RAP) has been deployed in the township after the incident and it been patrolling the area, police said.
They said the activists ransacked the residence of Borwankar, who is a resident of Maharashtra, to protest against the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's (MNS) assault on North Indian job seekers in the railways in Mumbai.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhusudan Bari said, "more than 100 activists armed with lathis gathered in front of Borwankar's bungalow and climbed up the main gate after security personnel refused to hand them over the keys of the gate."
They started to brick-bat, damaged flower-pots and the glasspanes of the bungalow, company sources said. However, no harm was caused to the family members, who were inside the house. Borwankar was away at a meeting at the Circuit House here, sources said.
A police team led by Bari rushed to the spot, but the activists managed to flee. Police have launched a hunt to apprehend the persons involved. Two persons were detained for interrogation in this regard, sources said.
Meanwhile, president of BBS Anand Bihar Dubey, who is also the town committee president of JMM, denied that Sangh activists were involved in the incident.
