BANGALORE: Battle lines have been drawn at the Banashankari Temple Ward (No 180) byelection. Owing to the 'sensitive' nature of the ward, the city police are in no mood to take any chances and are all geared up to ensure that the ward, barely measuring one square kilometre, is converted into a 'virtual fortress' for a smooth election.
Speaking to Express, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCPSouth) Sonia Narang said that the entire area was divided into eight sectors for the election to be held on Sunday June 26. "Every sector would be under an ACPlevel police official," she said and added that separate arrangements have been made for the 34 polling booths with special officers. The ward falls under the Padmanabha Nagar constituency (Assembly) of Home Minister R Ashok.

There will be tight 'bandobast' on roads to ensure smooth monitoring of passenger movement and vehicle checking in the area from June 25 itself. "Many of the rowdysheeters have already been rounded up," Narang said. The assistance of six Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) Platoons has already been sought. "Many of the police personnel are already in place, but the full strength would be in place on June 25", she explained.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has said that campaigning will end by 7 am on June 24. A mobile camera unit is also being set up to track suspicious activities. "All necessary arrangements will be made and we hope it would be a smooth election process," she said.
