Rinku Singh Reveals Rohit Sharma’s Advice After He Was Ignored For T20 World Cup 2024
Rinku failed to find a place in India's 15-member T20 World Cup 2024 squad, but he travelled with the side to the USA and West Indies as one of the four reserve players.

Rinku Singh was unlucky to miss out on a place in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad announced in May. The 26-year-old left-handed batter, who made his international debut for India last year against Ireland, was one of the favourites to find a place in the 15-member squad in the build-up to the tournament but was ignored by BCCI selectors. The T20 World Cup 2024 snub came was a shock for Rinku, who was hopeful about getting picked.

The left-handed star batter, who has 418 runs to his name in 23 T20Is played so far for India, has now opened up about the T20 World Cup 2024 snub and revealed Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s advice that helped him bounce back.

According to Rinku, Rohit asked him not to feel heartbroken and to keep working hard.

“Haan woh (Rohit Sharma) aaye the samjhane ki koi baat nahi, teri umar hi kya hai. World Cup aage bahut hai. Mehnat karte reh. Har do saal mein World Cup aata hai, uspe dhyaan de. Koi dikkat nahi hai, pareshan mat ho (He came to me and made me understand that it was okay; you are still very young. There will be many World Cups in the future. Keep working hard. There is a World Cup every two years, so focus on that. Don’t be disappointed),” Rinku said in an interview with News24.

Even though Rinku wasn’t part of the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, he travelled with the Indian team to the West Indies and United States as one of the four travelling reserves. He also earned Rs 1 crore from the Rs 125 crore prize money announced by the BCCI for the T20 World Cup 2024-winning Indian team.

Rinku, who got a chance to play three matches for India under Rohit’s leadership in January 2024 against Afghanistan, praised the 37-year-old right-batter and said he admires his captaincy style.

“I like Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. I like Virat Kohli as well because aggression is very important while leading a team. So, his captaincy was also very good,” Rinku stated.
