New Delhi: Delhi government on Thursday initiated a three-day public consultation with industry leaders, service providers and IT experts for speedy implementation of free Wi-Fi facility in the national capital.

According to a senior government official, during the three-day long discussion, experts from the government and private sector will focus on financial models, technical architecture, policy framework and regulatory issues which deal with Wi-Fi services.

The discussion is organised by the Department of Information Technology along with Delhi government's advisory body Delhi Dialogue Commission (DDC).

Speaking on the occasion, DDC Vice Chairman Ashish Khetan said that we are committed to implement the government's promise of providing free Wi-Fi access and the right to internet to every citizen in Delhi.

"Universal access to internet is a transformative idea that can empower citizens and provide them a level playing field irrespective of economic status, educational qualifications, gender, race or religion," he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia urged the industry leaders, service providers and IT experts to think of ideas and applications to make Delhi a better place to live in.

"E-governance and m-governance should be tied into the idea of Wi-Fi and ensure that citizen services and experience can be made better by the government and its partners."

Sisodia asked the Department of Information Technology and DDC to adopt best practices from across the world.

Representatives of leading private companies, service providers and experts will discuss issues related to security, privacy, rollout plan, technical architecture, service white listing, international case studies and best practices that the Delhi government can adopt.
