TIRUPATI Thousands of devotees descended at Tiruchanur, the abode of Goddess Padmavati on Tuesday, to take part in the Panchami Theertham, the last and most important event of the annual nineday long Kartheeka Brahmotsavams. The devotees who were waiting patiently for several hours, had a holy dip in the tank, as soon as priests dipped the Chakrathalvar, the main event of Panchami Theertham, amidst chanting of scriptures, at the anointed muhurtham around 12 noon.
The ritual commenced with the grand procession of temple elephant, carrying the 'sare' (gift from Lord Venkateswara to his beloved ) comprising turmeric, tulasi, kumkum, silk saree, which started from Tirumala in the wee hours, which was received at the entrance of Tiruchanur by temple priests, TTD chairman Kanumuri Bapiraju and executive officer LV Subramanayam.Later, the idol of Goddess Padmavathi and Chakrathalvar were taken in a procession to the specially decorated mandapam on the bank of Padmasarovaram where Snapana Thirumanjanam (celestial bath with milk, honey, coconut water) was performed by priests. After end of the hourlong ritual, the Chakrthalvar was taken into the Padma Pushkarini and dipped in the waters at Kumbha lagnam, the anointed hour, marking the completion of the annual Brahmotsavams.
