MERC on Thursday issued a notice, which says electric supply to neon signs, hoardings and posters will be cut every evening.

Mumbai: Mumbai won't look the same on Friday evening.

That's because the huge bright hoardings for which the city is famous won't shine bright any more.

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission on Thursday issued a notice, which says electric supply to neon signs, hoardings and posters will be cut between 1700 hrs IST and 2300 hrs IST every evening.

These power cuts will continue till the end of summer, during which the power consumption is at its peak. The commissions is trying to conserve power and this is it's first initiative to bridge the demand-supply gap in Mumbai.

But those who want to keep their hoardings lit can use diesel generators. The commission has also warned that it will watch till the first week of April.

And if this doesn't work, it'll resort to load-shedding in domestic consumers as well.

What's your reaction?
