New Delhi: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has called for a bandh in the Telangana region on Tuesday to protest the government's apparent indifference towards the separate statehood issue. A ruckus broke out in Delhi and Hyderabad over the issue. MPs from the region shouted slogans in Parliament after two students demanding separate statehood for Telangana set fire to themselves.
One of the two students died.
In Hyderabad, TRS MLAs are sitting on a dharna. The AP Assembly has been adjourned for the day.
BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said on Monday, "The Government is forming time-killing committees to look into Telangana. People cannot keep waiting. The Government should bring a bill in this session itself on Telangana."
He added, "We will support the formation of Telangana if they bring the bill."
Meanwhile, TRS leader Keshav Rao said, "It is a sad day for Telangana... two immolations, one dead. This is in addition to 700 others too died. The Government... Congress promised Telangana and the President too said so. Six bypoll results have showed that Congress has been wiped out. The BJP got elected even though they have no base there."
