HYDERABAD: When Telangana Congress MPs added to the opposition's din in Parliament on Wednesday, they were likely doing so with the blessings of the Congress high command, sources in the ginger group said.
On a day on which Parliament was paralysed by the opposition's stalling tactics, Telangana MPs were at the forefront of the day's activities, trying to draw the attention of of the Central goverment to the Telangana issue. But sources said they had the permission of the Congress high command to break ranks in Parliament to make a point about the separate state issue. One Congress MPs said the high command's tactics are to let the various protests in Parliament to play themselves out in the next few days. By participating in the din in Parliament, Telangana Congress MPs score brownie points that they did their bit for the region. At the same time, their decibels would be lost in the cacophony of the wider opposition protests and invite little notice. So two purposes would be served. This has been the tactic used by the Congress high command earlier too. There have been earlier occasions when Telangana Congress MPs made a show of their restlessness to secure a separate state of Telangana. When this happened a little too loudly in the budget session of Parliament this year, the MPs were advised by Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee to shut their mouths.
