New Delhi: Tehelka magazine has constituted a committee to probe into sexual assault case levelled against former editor Tarun Tejpal by a woman journalist.

In a press release by the magazine, Tehelka said that the committee was set up in accordance to Vishaka guidelines and it will be presided over by eminent feminist and publisher Urvashi Butalia.

Below is a statement released by Tehelka:

In furtherance to Tehelka's acceptance of Tarun Tejpal's recusal from editorship of Tehelka on November 20th, which followed the official unconditional apology he had mailed to the journalist concerned on November 19th, has now constituted a formal complaints committee, in accordance to Vishaka guidelines. The committee will be presided over by eminent feminist and publisher Urvashi Butalia. The other members of the committee will be announced shortly. Tehelka will ensure setting up a formal complaints committee, according to section 4 of the Sexual Harassment of Women (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Act, 2013), an institutional mechanism that was sorely missing in Tehelka.

The magazine's Managing Editor Shoma Chaudhury has come under intense criticism over the scandal. Chaudhary said that she is in touch with the girl and the survivor is not ready to file a police complaint.

According to sources the woman journalist had demanded the setting up of an anti-sexual harassment cell as per the Vishakha guidelines at Tehelka to investigate the alleged assault which took place in a 5-star hotel in Goa.
