A TDP MLA and four others were remanded to 14-day judicial custody on Tuesday in connection with the killing of the legislator's brother.
MLA from Jadcherla, Chandrashekhar alias Yerra Sekhar, the prime accused in the case who was absconding since last month, surrendered before Mahabubnagar superintendent of police on Monday day along with four other accused. "They were today produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Atmakur which sent them in 14 days of judicial remand," a senior police officer told PTI over phone.
Chandrashekhar allegedly shot dead his brother Jaganmohan (39) near the old bus stand in Devarkadra of Mahabubnagar on July 17 following a "brief argument" between them. The brothers were in a dispute as Chandrashekhar's wife Bhavani and Jaganmohan's wife Ashritha had filed nominations for the Peddachintakonta sarpanch's post.
The MLA was accused of forcing Jaganmohan to withdraw his wife's nomination, which he had refused, police had said. Jaganmohan's family had alleged that the MLA was behind the murder which took place soon after the deadline of the withdrawal of nominations for panchayat elections.
After a complaint by Jaganmohan's wife and some eye-witnesses, a murder case was booked against the MLA, who went absconding. Efforts were on to nab four others who are still on the run, police said on Tuesday.
