TD opposes GHMCs plan to hike property tax

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has strongly opposed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) proposal to hike property tax by five per cent from the next financial year (2012-13).In a letter addressed to the chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, TDP floor leader in GHMC, Singireddy Srinivas Reddy said the announcement by Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy and GHMC commissioner M T Krishna Babu on enhancement of property tax would burden people further who are already reeling under a penalty of 200 per cent hike on property tax. Singireddy said the hike of 5 per cent was contemplated with a view to repay the interest on loan of Rs 600 crore availed from the banks. He demanded that the mayor and commissioner should release a White Paper showing the projects to be executed under Total Infrastructure Programme (TIP), interest to be paid along with the principal amount to be repaid together with the GHMC’s action plan.
