BANGALORE: On the World AIDS Day, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda inaugurated a fully-equipped Volvo bus, which will be used for blood collection. The air-conditioned bus is equipped with four reclining chairs and has a capacity of collecting 200 blood units at a time. Next to the ‘blood donation room’, a small chamber for blood donors to relax, has been furnished in the bus.Helpline launchedKarnataka State AIDS Prevention Society set up a helpline for general public to clarify doubts on HIV. The helpline was launched by E V Ramana Reddy, health secretary. During the inauguration, Lion Club and other NGOs conducted a blood camp. The toll free number 1800-425-8500 works from 8 am to 8 pm from Monday to Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said. “We are looking forward for the day, when there will be Zero new HIV infections in the state.”Kannada actor Ganesh, spoke about love, amidst loud cheer from youngsters. In a drive to create awareness, he plucked a condom to show that the best way to prevent HIV is correct usage of condoms. Mahantesh Male, vice-president of Karnataka Network of People Living with HIV, an HIV positive for the 18 years, spoke about the need to provide care and support to children living with HIV.
