Tokyo: Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi arrived in Japan on Saturday for a week-long visit, her first trip to the country in 27 years since she visited Japan in 1985 as a visiting scholar, media reported. During her visit, Suu Kyi is expected to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and other government officials for further Japanese investment in Myanmar, reported Xinhua.

Suu Kyi, who leads National League for Democracy and was elected as parliamentarian last April, will also pay a visit to Kyoto, where she had stayed from 1985 to 1986 as a visiting scholar, and give lectures at universities.

In December 2011 in Yangon, Suu Kyi met then Japanese foreign minister Koichiro Gemba, who invited her to visit Japan.
