CHENNAI: “Students must be exposed to various fields of science,” says V M Ramaiyan, chairman of Saveetha University. In order to provide them hands-on experience and introduce them to meaningful activites, a six-day Summer Internship Programme for Schools (SIPS) was organised by the Saveetha University campus on monday at Thandalam. In the inaugural session of the programme Ramiyan addressed the students regarding the wonderful opportunity provided by the university to explore major fields of science like engineering, medicine and dentistry. Around 22 schools of Tamil Nadu participated in the SIPS. The participants witnessed 10 engineering projects done by the students of Saveetha School of Engineering and visited the Anatomy lab.The aim of this programme was to help school students get a knowhow of various innovative gadgets made by the students of the university. And they should understand the purpose of inventing these gadgets and their socio–economic use. During their internship the students will learn the working ways of an engineer, doctor and a dentist. The internship programme has been designed to integrate their interest with their aptitude and help students who are usually clueless about their future a step closer towards discovering the career of their choice.
