BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is gearing up to tackle the menace of illegal dumping of waste on roadside by imposing heavy penalties.
Not just this, the BBMP will reward a sum of Rs 2,000 for those who inform about illegal dumping of waste on roads.To begin with, Home, Transport and Bangalore Urban InCharge Minister R Ashok rewarded a cheque of Rs 2,000 to actorturnedpolitician MLC Jaggesh who informed the BBMP officials about the goods auto carrier that was seen dumping waste on MKK road below railway bridge in Malleswaram. The BBMP levied a penalty of Rs10,000 on its owner Basavaraj.

Speaking on the occasion, Ashok said that they will collect Rs10,000 for goods auto and Rs 25,000 from lorries, if they found them illegally dumping on roadside, footpaths and flyovers.

Ashok explained that these waste on roadside, during rainy season will flow to the nearby drains, thus blocking storm water drains. He also said they need at least `100 crore if they want to clear the debris on roadside which has been accumulated through illegal dumping.

One should inform to the BBMP Control Room on 08022221188. They will in turn inform the nearby police station. "The cash award will be given from the penalty amount," Ashok said.
