New Delhi: A television journalist on Friday claimed he has secretly filmed the reclusive actress of yesteryears, Suchitra Sen, in a 'sting operation', but says he will telecast the footage only if the actress grants permission.
Sumon Dey, a reporter with Bengali television channel Star Anand, claims he filmed the actress during her brief stay at a Kolkata nursing home last week by disguising himself as a patient. Suchitra Sen was admitted at the nursing home, called Belle Vue Clinic, last week following fever and urinary tract infection.
A PTI report from Kolkata, however, said the CEO of the nursing home has debunked the claim. At the same time, the CEO, however, conceded that Dey had indeed managed to admit himself in the clinic as a patient.
The journalist says he waited 'for this moment all his life' and claims he is now in possession of over two-hours of video footage of the 76-year-old former screen icon and a number of still images.
"I had waited all my career for this day when I would come face to face with Suchitra Sen and show how she now looks to viewers. I have both video and stills of her. But I am sacrificing my entire effort as I respect her right to live the life of a recluse. I hope she gets well and returns home soon,” PTI quoted Dey as saying.
The reporter claimed that he had written a letter, which was sent to Sen informing her of the 'sting operation', and hoped since he was not telecasting the footage, she would someday grant him an exclusive interview.
Dey said he had to go through a great deal of trouble to act as a patient, after disguising himself.
"It's all rubbish. He does not have any film. That's why the channel could not show any footage of Sen,” PTI quoted the CEO of Belle Vue Clinic, P Tandon, as saying.
He, however, conceded that Dey had been able to admit himself as a patient. "It will be investigated how he managed to gain entry."
Suchitra Sen is still in the hospital and doctors expect her to recover in another two days. "The actor’s condition is improving though she still has fever. She had a good night’s sleep," Tandon said on Thursday.
No visitors, other than her daughter Moon Moon Sen, are being allowed to meet her.
