HYDERABAD: A stationery store owner was taken into custody for selling whitener to minors who are getting addicted to inhaling the whitener for a ‘kick.'The railway police conducted a decoy operation and nabbed the trader after they had seen eight children inhaling whitener at the Secunderabad railway station. Police asked them from where they had bought the whitener which is used to erase ink and overwrite on it. A bottle of whitener costs about Rs 30.Secunderabad railway SP M Kantha Rao said the children, all rag-pickers, were spending all their earnings on whitener to which they are addicted. The addiction often made them commit crimes, he said.Police nabbed G Praveen Kumar, who runs Satyam Stationery near the railway station, for selling the whitener to one of the children.Two rescued: In another operation, the railway police rescued two children who had fled their homes. B Vinay (15) of Guntur passed SSC recently but deserted his home after his father had expressed his inability to buy him a computer. He came here by the Repalle Passenger a few days ago and was found on the platform. He was handed over to his parents. The other, a 10-year-girl, S Sita of Kakinada left her uncle's house after they expressed their inability to take care of her after the death of her parents. She too came here a few days back and was entrusted to an NGO by the police.
