THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The SSLC examinations would commence on March 12, in which 4.7 lakh students would appear. The number of students appearing for the exams is higher by 11,213 than the preceding year.Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb told a news conference here on Thursday that 2,758 centres have been readied for conducting the exams, scheduled up to March 26.The exams would start at 1.45 p m and end at 4.30 p m in the case of English, Maths and Social Science, 3 pm in the case of IT and all other exams would end at 3.30 p m.There would be no exams on Fridays and it would be held on Saturdays instead. Due to the Piravom Assembly segment bypoll on March 17, the exams on that day would be held on March 26. Ten examination centers would be in the Gulf region and nine in Lakshadweep.Compared to last year,there are 27 more centres this year.7,313 private candidates would appear for the exams. School-going candidates would have questions based on a new syllabus and those re-appearing for the exams would have questions based on the old syllabus.The minister said that 25,000 teachers have been assigned for invigilation duty. 13,000 teachers would handle valuation of answer books in 24 centralised valuation camps.The highest number of students, 1,478, would be appearing for the exams at St Mary’s School, Pattom.Tirur educational district and Malappuram revenue district are credited with seating the highest number of students in the state.Kuttanad educational district and Idukki revenue district are at the bottom with 2,549 and 13,333 students respectively.“The Higher Secondary, VHSE and TTC exams would also begin along with the SSLC exams,” the minister said.In 1,869 centres,4.08 lakh students would appear for the first year Higher Secondary exams. 3.71 lakh students would appear for the second year exams. In the VHSE stream, 54,301 students would appear in 389 centres. 18,000 TTC students would also appear for their annual exams.
