CHENNAI: Staff and students from the dental stream of Sri Ramachandra University (SRU) are all set to conduct a free total dental rehabilitation programme in Poombarai village, near Kodaikanal, between August 19 and 21. As many as 20 dental surgeons, paramedical and other staff with all necessary equipment will screen the entire population of around 15,000 people and provide immediate surgical and other treatments, as may be the case.Within three days of screening initially, 10 complete dentures and 20 partial dentures will be specially fabricated and provided for the benefit of those who require it. When the Rural Pre-Ventures Public Charitable Trust sought SRU’s assistance for dental treatment of the village, a survey was undertaken and most of those living in Poombarai village were found to be wanting immediate total dental rehabilitation.The Faculty of Dental Sciences was started in 1995 as a constituent college of Sri Ramachandra University. It now stands as a separate building and has 330 well equipped dental chairs.
