KOCHI: The city was dipped in yellow on Sunday on the occasion of the 157th birth anniversary of Sree Narayana Guru. The celebrations started from morning at all the SNDP branches to remember Sree Narayana Guru, a reformer who changed the fabric of Kerala through his teachings. One caste, one religion and one God for man, that was the teaching of this great visionary who fought for the world’s unity. Pujas were performed from 5 am. Celebrations were afresh in the SNDP North Paravoor branch where 200 people took part in the rally. SNDP North Paravoor secretary A K Shaji inaugurated the function. A special puja and flag-hoisting were held in North Paravoor on Sunday. Also, scholarships were distributed to the financially backward students of PMUP School at North Paravoor. Processions and fancy dress competitions were held in Vaduthala. The SNDP women’s wing distributed clothes to poor women and pension to poor families and widows. A cycle rally was also conducted on the occasion.Rallies were taken out from SNDP Hall at Mamangalam. In many places mass feast were organised. Paintings and cultural activities for children were organised. “In the present world when separatism and hatred is increasing, people should go back to the teachings of Narayana Guru for retaining world harmony and brotherhood,” SNDP Kanyannoor unit union secretary P P Rajan said. The SNDP has organised a 1,000-day class where Guru’s principles to be followed in daily life. CPI state secretary C K Chandrappan inaugurated the function organised by SNSYS at Dhanwantri Hall at Palluruthy. Dominic Presentation MLA presided over the function. M K Arjunan Master, Paapukutty Bhagavatar, Cochin Varghese were honoured at the function.
