CUTTACK: A spotted deer was rescued on Saturday by a retired armyman from the vicinity of Nimajhara reservoir at Safa under Tangi police limits. The fawn, which was later handed over to the Forest officials, is said to be around one-month-old. Capt (Retd) SK Routray of Safa village and a companion Mohan Behera were going on morning walk on the embankment of the reservoir when they were disturbed by the barks of dogs. They looked around and saw dogs surrounding a bamboo thicket. They shooed the dogs away only to find a small deer inside it. Both brought it out and handed it over to the local Forest officials. The fawn is believed to have strayed into the area from nearby jungles of Charijoda or Maa Hatuari.
