HYDERABAD: The state government on Thursday extended the term of special officers of municipalities and municipal corporations by another six months. The term of the special officers of 98 municipalities and 13 municipal corporations in the state expired on September 29.The term of special officers was extended due to nonconduct of elections to the civic bodies. The municipal elections could not be conducted as the process of upgradation of some Gram Panchayats as Nagara Panchayats and municipalities is still on. For the conduct of elections to the urban bodies, the BC population should be ascertained for reservation of wards and posts of chairpersons. The Socio Economic and Caste Census-2011 is still under way in all the urban local bodies. Hence, the term of special officers was extended by six months from September 30 or till the conduct of elections whichever is earlier.
