New Delhi: Sony today introduced a new smartphone the Xperia Z Ultra. The company claims the Xperia Z Ultra to be the world's slimmest and largest full HD smartphone. The phone has a 6.4-inch display and is 6.5mm thick.

Weighing 212g, the new Xperia Z Ultra is waterproof and dust resistant. The Xperia Z Ultra is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 processor with 2.2 GHz quad-core CPUs and 4GLTE.

The front and back are made of tempered glass. Running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, it has an 8 megapixel camera with "Exmor RS for mobile" sensor and HDR for videos and photos.

According to Sony, the Xperia Ultra Z also includes Battery Stamina Mode, which is said to improve the standby time by four times or more by automatically shutting down battery-draining apps whenever the screen is off and starting them up again when the screen is back on.

The Xperia Z Ultra will launch globally from Q3 2013. Exact timing of availability will vary by market.
