Mumbai: At least six newly recruited terrorists could have been involved in planting explosives at the three sites in Mumbai and two to five kg blast material was used at each of the locations, police said on Tuesday.
The bomb planters might have links with Gujarat and West Bengal, officials of Maharashtra ATS and Mumbai Crime Branch, which are probing the serial blasts, said.
"During our meetings with the various security agencies, including NIA, there was an unanimous opinion that there could be at least six accused who must have been involved in the operation of placing the explosives at the (three) sites," said an ATS official.
They all must have been newly recruited (may be a year ago) in the terror outfit responsible for the blasts, the official said, adding they might have gone to the sites - Dadar, Zaveri Bazaar and Opera House - in pairs.
"We have reason to believe that the terrorists could have strong links with Gujarat and Kolkata," the officer said, declining to divulge further details.
A senior Mumbai Police official said explosive materials, a mixture of ammonium nitrate, TNT and fuel oil and weighing between two and five kg, were placed at each site.
"At this moment, we cannot rule out the use of RDX," the official said.
