MADURAI: In a dramatic turn of events, six persons, who tried to rescue their accomplices remanded to custody, were arrested by the police here on Tuesday.According to the police, Thangaraj had complained that his land had been usurped by R S Ganesan and Pandi, owner of a steel almirah manufacturing unit. Based on the complaint, the duo were arrested and were produced before a Judicial Magistrate, who remanded them to custody on Monday night. Later, at midnight, the accused were being taken in a vehicle by a team led by Inspector Gopalakrishnan. When the vehicle was crossing Simmakal, it was intercepted by a gang which came in another car. The gang tried to attack the policemen and release the remand prisoners. However, the police overpowered all the six along with the remand prisoners as well.A case was registered and the accomplices of the remand prisoners Shirajudeen, Pandi, Ganeshprasad, Mohanraj, Thirupathi, and Venkatesan were arrested.
