Situation grim in Nabarangpur

Incessant rain over the last 10 days has disrupted normal life in the district. While flood in Phuljhari disrupted communication in the southern side of the town, the Indravati river has started swelling threatening to overflow. Till Sunday noon, the district recorded 107.83 mm rainfall.

The water-level at Indravati dam in Khatiguda went up to 633.6 metre by Sunday morning.  It is learnt that the sluice gates will be opened only when the water in the reservoir reaches 639 metre. Its maximum capacity is 642 metre.

The incessant rain has also swollen the Bhaskal, the Turi and the Guntat rivers while a number of nullahs are overflowing.

Meanwhile, vehicular movement on NH-27 between Borriguma and Nabarangpur has been affected with a river near Parli village overflowing the diversion culvert.

Communication on Nabarangpur-Umerkote State highway and between Nabarangpur and Bhawanipatna has also been snapped with the Hati river overflowing.

The district administration has alerted the officers concerned to keep a vigil.
