Islamabad: Pakistan's fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has said he will resume bowling by next week after undergoing rehabilitation exercises following his knee injury in Australia.
Shoaib added that he would be fully fit by the end of April.
"Since my knee surgery, everything has been going well so far and I will be bowling again after another week," said Shoaib, who is out of action since India's tour of Pakistan early this year.
"I won't be charging in off like my usual run-up straight away, as I need to build up gradually. I don't know how long it will take but I know it won't be long. I just have to be patient," he was quoted as saying by The News.
The Rawalpindi Express said he had been training hard in the gymnasium on upper body and lower body exercises as well as cycling and swimming.
"I'm feeling strong as I've been doing gym work five to six days a week, not every day as the body needs a day or two to recover from all the workouts. I don't want to overdo it."
Shoaib said if everything went according to the schedule and if his current progress continued, he would be at full fitness level by the end of April.
"That would mean that I would be in peak condition by the time the England tour comes around, which has always been my main target," he said.
On reports that he had recently missed some of his training sessions, the paceman said Dr David Young, who carried out the surgery on him, had kept in touch with him.
"He is pretty pleased with the way things are going with my recovery so that's another plus point. Nobody knows my body better than him after he scanned me all over so it's good to hear him being confident about my fitness," he said.
