Mumbai: Filmmaker Shashank Ghosh is on a new mission. After debuting with Waisa Bhi Hota hai in 2003, Ghosh is now busy searching for co-producers for his new english film titled Betelnutkillers.
And he is inviting you to be a producer for as little as $100. Confused? Check out the website www.betelnutkillers.com. This is Ghosh's new way of getting funds after getting some cold response from regular financers.
"For an Indian producer, they don't want to make a film that is based in the US, is an english film and not about Indians but 'Indian immigrants and how they deal with Americans'," says Ghosh.
"They are saying hindi me bana do to we will all go for it (If you make it in Hindi, we will go for it). For US producers it's different as it's too small budget for them. That puts us in the DVD or home video category which is not great for us," he adds.
Helping Ghosh in his endeavour is his good old friend Mahesh Murthy. Since Mahesh already runs a search engine based marketing company called Pinstorm, it was much easier for the friends to kickstart the process.
The website has all the details including the film's story, the way they plan to make it, some FAQ's and how you can invest in the movie.
"What we are trying to do with the search engine is that we are profiling our prospects. Our prospect is someone who enjoys independent film like Bend it like Beckham. So, we are buying those words and optimising the site to those words. So, when you search for those words you see our ads where you have the website," explains Murthy, the CEO of Pinstorm Technologies.
According to Ghosh, Beteltnutkiller is a culture crime comedy. What's more, in just few days the funds have already started coming. So, if you always dreamt about having your name in those end credits of movie, here's your chance.
