KOCHI: In a submission made by the Southern Railways to the High Court on Friday, only 110 trains out of the 254 trains running in the state had personnel from the Railway Protection Force or Government Railway Police. However, it added that the RPF is taking every step to ensure safety of the passengers and the railway property. After Soumya’s death, the Railways had included atleast one RPF or GRP in all passenger trains between 6 pm and 6 am in the coach adjacent to the ladies coach. The affidavit was submitted by Southern Railways Chief Security Commissioner V K Dhaka in response to a petition filed by Basil Attipetty of Ernakulam citing ineffective security on trains. The petitioner submitted that the attack against ladies in trains were still continuing and there was inadequate security.
