The second annual nation-wide search to identify and recognise school students who have made meaningful contributions to their communities has been kicked off. The 2012 ‘Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards’ programme now invites individual and group applications from students in Classes VI-XII from across the country, who have been engaged in a volunteer community service activity that occurred at least partly during the 12 months prior to the application period. The top two individual winners will receive medallions, cash prizes and a return trip to Washington, DC in May 2012. The best group entry will receive medallions and a cash prize to be shared among the team.“It is very encouraging that a number of young people today are getting involved in community service and are making a constructive difference in the towns and neighbourhoods they live in. They are helping the less fortunate, promoting health and safety, protecting the environment and serving their communities through many other volunteer activities.Through the ‘Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards’, we would like to tell them in the strongest possible terms how important their volunteer work is, and how proud we are of their accomplishments. We would also like this initiative to inspire others to think about how they might contribute to the well-being of their communities,” Pavan Dhamija, managing director & CEO, DLF Pramerica Life Insurance Co. (DPLI) said.
