New Delhi: The principal of a public school was allegedly shot at by two unidentified armed assailants inside the premises of the school in Narela of outer Delhi.
However, 48-year-old Ram Pal Tyagi, Principal of Daffodil Public school in Narela, escaped unhurt as the assailants missed their target, police said on Wednesday.
"We are contemplating to provide him security till the accused are apprehended," a police official said.
According to the police, the two accused were noticed making several rounds of the school on their motorcycle before they entered the school premises.
When a security guard accosted them, one of the accused told the guard that they had come to take an admission form.
"Suspecting foul play, the guard informed the principal who in turn came to the school's main gate and directed one of the teachers to question the duo.
"While one of the teachers was asking the duo that why were they in the school, one of them drew out his pistol and shot at the principal. The bullet however missed the target and hit the wall instead," said the official.
The accused then fled from the spot.
Police said they have gathered the CCTV camera footage and have uploaded the pictures of the assailants.
"We will check our records to get a clue. If this was their first attempt at crime, the footage will in any case help us to identify them," added the officer.
Police revealed that several staff members including the principal himself was being questioned following the incident.
