The district administration has ordered to register cases against 23 people, after a scam to the tune of Rs 15 crore in the distribution of scholarships meant for reserved category students in paramedical colleges was exposed recently.
"A probe has been ordered after getting the report of a two-member committee which found solid evidence in the matter," Indore Collector Aakash Tripathi told PTI in Indore on Monday.
"After getting the probe committee report, the Tribal Welfare Department has been directed police action against the colleges involved," he said, adding that directives have already been issued to recover the scholarship money from the concerned institutions.
The probe committee comprising District Panchayat's Chief Executive Officer and Minority Welfare Department's Assistant Director unearthed a scam to the tune of Rs 15 crore in the distribution of scholarships to SC, ST and OBC students studying in 23 paramedical and nursing colleges, sources said.
Scholarships meant for these students were allegedly pocketed by directors of these institutions in connivance with the concerned officials, they said.
Allegedly, they availed of scholarships in the name of even those who never took admissions in these colleges, by opening fake bank accounts.
